Title: Sense and Sensibility

Author: Jane Austen

Available at: AmazonBarnes and Noble

From Goodreads:‘The more I know of the world, the more am I convinced that I shall never see a man whom I can really love. I require so much!’

Marianne Dashwood wears her heart on her sleeve, and when she falls in love with the dashing but unsuitable John Willoughby she ignores her sister Elinor’s warning that her impulsive behaviour leaves her open to gossip and innuendo. Meanwhile Elinor, always sensitive to social convention, is struggling to conceal her own romantic disappointment, even from those closest to her. Through their parallel experience of love—and its threatened loss—the sisters learn that sense must mix with sensibility if they are to find personal happiness in a society where status and money govern the rules of love.

I have enough reviews scheduled to do some pleasure reading so I thought I’d read the last Jane Austen book on my list. I think this is my favorite of her books. Marianne with her overwhelming sensibility and Elinor with her rational commonsense are my favorite characters. The story draws me out and keeps me engaged. Colonel Brandon is one of the most romantic figures I’ve ever read about. His steadfastness and his sweeping Marianne in his arms when she falls ill in the rain. Willoughby’s villainy is the worst perfidy known to grace the romance novels. Then the joyful ending when they all get their most deserved happiness. Yes. This is my favorite book of all.

What’s your favorite classic?

I love all of Austen’s novels and the Brontes. I am a bit obsessed with the Brontes. 🙂

I love all of the Austen books myself, but I haven’t really read any Brontes. I have them on my TBR list. 🙂
